MISS UNIVERSE PHILIPPINES 2011

11-Apr-2011, ABS-CBN: A 24-year-old University of the Philippines (UP) magna cum laude graduate was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Ms. Universe 2011 at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday evening. Shamcey Supsup, who finished B.S. Architecture from UP Diliman and topped the June 2010 Architect Licensure Exam, beat 40 other candidates for the title. She is also a high school salutatorian from the Makati High School. Supsup, who stands 5'7" and is from General Santos City, beat 15 other semi-finalists after answering the question, "What worthy cause do you identify yourself with and why? A SEPARATE WORLD

Yesterday's casting call for Miss Philippines 2011 was for the Miss Universe Philippines title, not the Miss World Philippines title. There will be a separate casting call and contest for Miss World Philippines this year. Miss World Organization head Julia Morley is in the Philippines to announce the franchise for Miss World Philippines. TOP 10 10 YEARS AGO IN TNT

Miss Universe (not Miss World!) Philippines 1999, Miriam Quiambao. Honor Roll students will recall that she is an "ascended" Miss Universe contender. She won the title of Miss World Philippines 1999, but ascended to the throne of Miss Universe Philippines because of some controversy with the original winner. Now...if any student can remember the controversy, that student will not have to take Miss Universe History 101 next semester.

Here she is today, with a glam, red carpet ready clutch that doubles as a computer! What a great final two in 1999, one of the best ever...and almost as good as the final two in 1987! It would have been a tough to be judge that night in Trinidad and Tobago!
