MISS JAMAICA WORLD 2010

Jamaica Observer, 23-aug-2010: The second time seems to be the charm for Chantal Raymond, 24. After a previous attempt at the Miss Jamaica World title in 2008, she decided to give it a shot this year, and on Saturday night, walked away with the title, prizes and the opportunity to represent Jamaica at Miss World in Sanya, China, later this year. Raymond, a graduate of the prestigious Harvard Law School, was definitely among the night's favourites inside the ballroom of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. First runner-up was 23-year-old student Kerry Moxam, while architecture student, Amanda-Lee McCreath, 23, was second runner-up.

PICK FIVE

Today's Pick of the Day is, well, impossible. With the presentation show last night, today is a Pick Five day, sort of like the lottery! We'll do pick five from A-L today; we'll pick five from M-Z tomorrow. Today's Pick Five from A-L are: Miss Albania; Miss Angola; Miss Ireland; Miss Jamaica; and Miss Kosovo. The Universe shimmered and shined last night, thanks to them! Dean Harris could even see this year's universal battle coming down to Ireland and Jamaica - he has declared that there may be no real need to Pick Five M-Z, because it will come down to I and J!

CFW

The 10th annual Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) takes place in Kingston, Jamaica, June 8-14. Kimberley Mais-Issa, Miss Universe Jamaica 1991, and Romae Gordon are the hosts of the TV show "Ready for CFW." Kimberley and Romae will give the viewers a glimpse into this season's collections, and will revisit the previous year's most interesting and striking designs and highlight some of the celebrity performances which made the 2009 event memorable.

TEENage: How do you feel about the recent controversy which many
persons believe that you were a victim of?

CY: (Sighs) I heard the reports on the television, and it was a claim made by the choreographer who I met personally and is someone deeply involved in Miss Universe so one would assume him to be credible. I don't know how true it is, but if it is true then it's disappointing. I do recall the night before the final show we [the delegates] were asked to form a line in alphabetical order and say our name, age and country while he [Trump] looked at each of us with an assistant taking notes, I don't know for what reason. But as for me, my satisfaction lies in the fact that I represented my country to the best of my abilities, and had a blast doing it (smiles) that was my goal and I achieved that.

PICK OF THE DAY

Surprize! Pick of the Day today is Miss Universe Jamaica 2009, Carolyn Yapp! Dean Harris and Prof. Chandni are so glad to see that the Global Beauties Leaderboard judges have stopped smoking whatever it was they were smoking and now have Carolyn "rising from the seabed." Says Prof. Chandni, "I will have you know that she will rise all the way to the top!"

INDI-BLACK-ANESE

Miss Universe Jamaica 2009, Carolyn Yapp, describes herself as "indi-black-anese." She says she is the epitome of Jamaica's national motto "Out Of Many One People," as she has African, Indian, and Chinese ancestry. Read an interview with her at the Jamaica Observer.

Dean Harris and Prof. Chandni are head over heels for Miss Jamaica. She is #1 on their Leaderboard. For the next several weeks, it will be nothing but patties and Red Stripe for them! When it comes to Carolyn, Dean Harris and Prof. Chandni are the epitome of "One Heart, One Love."

Carolyn Yapp, a 25 year old Interior Designer was last night crowned Miss Universe Jamaica 2009 to loud cheers and prolonged applause from the small audience in attendance at The Refuge at Villa Ronai. The coronation was a private affair, attended by the family and friends of the contestants, as well as producers and organizers from Pulse, licensees for the Jamaica preliminary to Miss Universe. Pulse made a special appeal to Jamaicans to come forward to compete for the title, despite giving up the license earlier this year, as the Miss Universe Organization prevailed on the Jamaican company to conduct a contest and produce a Miss Universe entrant from Jamaica. This year is considered especially important for Caribbeans, as the event will be held at Atlantis in the Bahamas, next door to Jamaica. This might be a year in which Jamaica has its best chance, given the event’s presence in the region and the potential of the stunningly beautiful Miss Yapp. MORE HERE...
