The Pick of the Day today is the very blonde Miss Universe Ukraine 2009, Kristina Kots-Gotlib, seen here sitting on the beach at Coral Sands Hotel in Harbour Island, Bahamas. According to Wikipedia, blonde hair is a genetic mutation. The date of that genetic mutation that resulted in blonde hair in Europe has been isolated to about 11,000 years ago during the last ice age. Lorraine, our Beloved Librarian, says that rumor among licensed beauticians is that the blonde gene originated in Ukraine, and from looking at Kristina, we can buy into that rumor!

FAMISHED FOR BLONDES

Prof. Chandni and Dean Harris had brunch together today and both commented on the stunning new Miss Universe Ukraine 2009, Kristina Koz-Gotlib.

"Why does Miss World always get the sexy blondes? It will be a crime if Kristina does not make top five at Miss Universe 2009!" Prof. Chandni opined.

I agree," said Dean Harris, "Miss Universe is famished for sexy blondes! Will Kristina be the next Jennifer Hawkins? Is she the Universe's answer to Ksenia Sukhinova? Can Kristina bring the European drought at Miss Universe to an end this year?"

Prof. Chandni replied, "Of course, you know I concur with you, but if Frieda Pinto wins Miss India, my money is on her! Which reminds me - I must call Lorraine to see if she needs me to bring anything over tonite when we watch the Oscars together!"

QUEEN OF THE ORANGE REVOLUTION

Just hours ago Iryna Zhuravska, an 18-year old student from Kiev, was crowned Miss Ukraine 2008. Some 26 beauty delegates, winners from different regions of the country, took part in the final of the 18th national beauty contest. Iryna will be the "hometown girl" at Miss World 2008, representing the Orange Revolution nation at the October pageant to be held in Kiev.

The founders of Kiev pay homage to the new Queen of the Orange Revolution Nation and look forward to Miss World 2008 arriving on the banks of the great Dnipr River. In October, one of the oldest cities in the world (this year, Kiev celebrates its 1,526th anniversary) will welcome the oldest global beauty pageant in the world.
