All Beauty School students must take a ribbon-cutting test before they can graduate, as this is a critical function of any beauty queen (or king). Our ribbon-cutting icon is Karen Herd, Miss Idaho America 1971 and first runner-up at the 1971 Miss America Pageant, seen here at a grand opening of a supermarket in Boise.
We think that Karen was the unconscious inspiration for the Carrie Underwood song, "All-American Girl." When you think an "all-American girl," you can't help but think of Karen.
