Todays guest lecturer in Miss Chandni's "Miss Universe 101" class was none other than our beloved librarian Lorraine. We make her do this in order to justify her salary, since she doesn't do a whole hell of a lot running the library. Her subject was, "Competing before plastic surgery, breast implants and botox." Lorraine goes way back and remembers the days when there were secret ways to enhance ones look while competing. She brought along genuine advertisements to make her point. You see, back in the 50's & 60's padding was allowed. As you can see from the photo above the proper undergarment could enhance ones waist, hips and "Bootie." Our personal favorite was the "blow up bra." As Lorraine said, "Girls, once you checked out the competition, you could just blow up your bra to the biggest size that would outdo the other girls and impress the judges and hope that nobody gave you a hug before competing. I've seen it happen, and it wasn't pretty. Actually it was pretty deflating." Her lecture was greeted with cheers and applause and she graciously walked the runway while the students blew up balloons for her.
