MISS GREAT BRITAIN 2010


The new Miss Great Britain 2010 is Liverpool native Amy Carrier, 20. She won the crown on Saturday night, besting over 50 other competitors. The law student said, "I am so overwhelmed and feel so honored to be given this prestigious title. I will do my best to be a good ambassador for Great Britain." Miss Central London Lisa Lazarus, 23, was named first runner-up, and Miss Birmingham City Gina Basham, 22, was named second runner-up. The glittering event took place in the seaside resort of Weston Super-Mare in front of a packed and cheering audience, at the newly re-opened Grand Pier. MISS EUROPE 2009 - REAL OR RUMOUR?

Is is real or rumour? Beauty School staff has heard through the grapevine that Miss Europe 2009 is scheduled to take place next month in Beirut, Lebanon. Can anyone in the student body confirm or deny this rumour?

CLAIR EYES

Britain's oldest beauty pageant has become the latest victim of the credit crunch. Miss Great Britain, first staged 64 years ago, was due to be held next month at the Grosvenor Hotel in London. But organiser Robert de Keyser has called it off, citing the global economic downturn after failing to attract enough wealthy patrons willing to buy table space at the event. ashion tycoon Mr de Keyser, 58, insisted last night that he would rearrange the contest later in the year. But a source claimed it was unlikely that Miss Great Britain would be staged at all in 2009. According to records at Companies House, the company behind the competition - in which Mr de Keyser's 24-year-old girlfriend Ashly Rae is a director - made a loss of £53,000 in 2006 and £62,000 in 2007. Blimey! Britain's Valerie Susan Holmes is Miss International 1969!
