EGYPT TURMOIL UPSETS MISS GERMANY

AFP, 02-Feb-2011: Historic demonstrations in Egypt may not have toppled President Hosni Mubarak yet, but on Wednesday they did claim one glamorous victim: preparations for the "Miss Germany" beauty pageant. Twenty-four candidates aged 17 to 24 for the coveted title arrived in the Red Sea tourist resort of Hurghada last week for 10 days of catwalk and photoshoot training, topping up their suntans and relaxing. But now, they are going home to continue their training in their distinctly chillier homeland, because their families are worried, a spokeswoman for the contest told AFP.

"We have received lots of phone calls (from family members) who have seen the images from Cairo and who are concerned," Ines Klemmer, one of the organisers, said by phone from Hurghada. "So they are being repatriated tomorrow (Thursday), instead of on Saturday." This is despite the fact there is no sign on the sun-kissed beaches of the Red Sea of the unrest raging for the past nine days throughout the Arab world's most populous country. "It's completely calm here. There are no problems, everything is running to plan," Klemmer said.

WER WIRD MISS GERMANY 2011?

Who will be the new Miss Miss Germany 2011? 24 women are vying to capture the crown on February 12th. This is the traditional Miss Germany pageant, and the winner (or a runner-up) will represent Germany at Miss Earth 2011. Representatives for Miss Universe 2011 and Miss World 2011 will be chosen in contests later this year.

One of our faves for the Miss Germany 2011 title is Miss Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 2011 Romy Wibelitz. She recently won her title in a co-ed pageant (our favorite kind!) that also crowned Henry Glöckner as Mister Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 2011.

Sexy German lederhose and bademode were in full abundance at the Miss and Mister Bavaria 2011 (Miss und Mister Bayern 2011) contest, held last night at the City Point shopping mall in Nuremberg. 23 women competed for the Miss Bavaria title and 7 men competed for the Mister Bavaria title. Tanja Mader, 21 and a student teacher, was elected Miss Bavaria 2011, and Christopher Kobiela, 24 and university student/male model, was elected Mister Bavaria 2011. Beauty School loves a pageant in which the winners are crowned in their regional or national constumes! Oh, save the date! CROWNING A DECADE

Crowning the close of the decade is the new Miss Tourism International 2009 World Final, Sarah Elzanowski of Germany, 18. She won the coveted title during a glittering New Year's Eve celebration in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, 31 December 2009. First runner-up was Miss Venezuela, Jessica Ibarra; second-runner up was Miss Brazil, Thays Calmanv Neves; third runner-up was Miss Malaysia, Edwina Markus; and fourth runner-up was Miss Czech Republic, Gabriela Korinkova.

More Mister Germany 2010...and Misses Germany 2010! Misses Süddeutschland Cathrin Durakovic, 28, is the new Misses Germany, a contest open to women who are married or have children or both. Cathrin is married and has a 18 month-old daughter. Runners-up for the Mises Germany title were Misses Nordrhein-Westfalen Daniela Risch and Misses Westdeutschland Kaminka Sirot.

The new Mister Germany is Mete Kaan Yaman, 23. Mister Brandenburg, Ricardo Will, 22, came second. Mister Hannover, Aljoscha Burkhardt, 24, came third.

MISS EUROPE 2009 - REAL OR RUMOUR?

Is is real or rumour? Beauty School staff has heard through the grapevine that Miss Europe 2009 is scheduled to take place next month in Beirut, Lebanon. Can anyone in the student body confirm or deny this rumour?

With my free time, I took a trip to Miami Beach to meet up with some of my old friends, the little Miss Universes. They have been showing me a hell of a time. Yes, It's still Oktoberfest on campus with just 4 days to go. The sisters of Beta Epsilon Epsilon Rho have kept the good times rolling all this month, which was dedicated to Marlene Schmidt of Germany, Miss Universe 1961. One can never go wrong with sharing yet another picture of her. Ah Marlene!

DAS IS GUT

The Oktoberfest continues on campus. The sorority sisters of Beta Epsilon Epsilon Rho, otherwise known as the "Beer Girls," will be screening the 1961 Miss Universe Pageant tonight in its original black and white version at the Amparo Muñoz Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, but a dress code will be in place - all students must be dressed in white, as Marlene Schmidt was when competing for the title in 1961; white gown; opera gloves; and a single strand of pearls.

OKTOBERFEST

Well, the festivities are in full swing here at Beauty School under the guidance of our newest sorority, Beta Epsilon Episilon Rho, the "Beer Girls." All former Miss Rheingolds themselves, they have kept the kegs tapped in their month long salute to Miss Germany and Miss Universe 1961, Marlene Schmidt. OKTOBERFEST 2008

Ok, we admit they are a little late in "rolling out the barrel," but the girls of Beta Epsilon Epsilon Rho, otherwise known as the "Beer Girls," finally got their act together and officially kicked off "Oktoberfest 2008" at Beauty School. Having modeled themselves after the "Miss Rheingold" girls of yore, they finally decided on a theme and convinced Madge our Cafeteria Supervisor to serve beer 24/7 for the rest of the month (We are well aware that some delegates' grades will drop because of this.) Let the word go forth that this month is dedicated to one of the most beautiful ladies to ever win the title of Miss Universe. We speak of Germany's own, Marlene Schmidt, Miss Universe 1961. "Wilkomen Marlene"!!!

There are two picks today! They are Miss Universe Germany 2008 Madina Taher and Miss Universe Spain 2008, Claudia Moro. Dean Harris could not resist this photo today of these two beauty delegates, one of whom will soon be from the home of the new Euro 2008 titleholder. They are flanked by Miss Universe Turkey and Miss Universe Russia, whose countries reached the semifinals at Euro 2008. Today, in Vienna, Austria, Germany (GER) or Spain (ESP) will be crowned the champion of Euro 2008. Might we see a similar battle to the finish in Nhatrang on July 13/14?
