Time for another "First Lady in the Spotlight," our salute to the delegates who almost grabbed the title and crown. Who can forget 1985? Miss Spain, Teresa Sanchez, looked like she ruled the competition from the get go and not without some serious competition from Misses Zaire, Venezuela, Uruguay, and Puerto Rico. We recently screened the 1985 Miss Universe Pageant on campus to the freshman class, and there was a collective gasp when the results were announced. Teresa was a crowd favorite, and a judges' favorite until the evening gown competition. It is pageant lore that many folks felt her choice of evening gown did her in. Blue dress, HUGE bow. In any case, Teresa you are not forgotten, and the spotlight is on you.
