The 23-year-old winner had not caught the eye of the media as a potential winner, but he seemed to adopt an additional sparkle in his glance on the night and led in the mature group from the beginning, eventually taking top spot with a total score of 574 points.
In the Youth group, there was some tight competition between Joey and Number 2 Alan Wan. It was down to the final question in the discussion round, where Joey's repetition of "taking photographs to share with everyone" seemed to win over the ladies affections, winning him the group title.
The show was hosted by Carol Cheng, Anna Yau and Miriam Yeung. The three ladies led the hoard of women in the judging panel and the all-female audience of socialites, Miss Hong Kong participants, celebrities, models and members of the public. With so many great figures and handsome looks in the line-up this year, the ladies were the most frenzied in the history of the competition and the wet swimwear parade caused a wave of screams and shrieks from the excited ladies.
The ladies were certainly not shy when it came to checking out the male contestants and they were all eager to touch the men's muscles for themselves. Mr Hong Kong super-fan and joker Christine Ng even brought along her own oxygen supply this year "in case of emergency."
Miriam has been a host of a Miss Hong Kong contest in the past, where she was criticised as not being serious enough, so with the more relaxed and fun atmosphere of the Mr Hong Kong contest, this was an ideal job. However, she did find it extremely hard to hold back her giggles from the excitement and it left her unable to speak for much of the show.
