PRETTY IN PRAHA

Miss World 2006 Taťána Kuchařová and supermodel Petra Němcová are currently starring in a 30-second commercial, airing on satellite television network Fashion TV. The ad promotes the natural beauties of the Czech capital of Praha. In the TV ad, the Czechmates check out all the tourist sites, dine alfresco, and toast the glories of Praha with some Czech bubbly.

The commercial, commissioned by the city council of Prague, has come under fire for being too clichéd. Said one newspaper critic:
"The whole commercial is packed with clichés. If you want to attract tourists, the very common cliché is that you show him a place full of alcohol and attractive women. But you can drink champagne in the middle of a desert, and you can find blonde everywhere, on Mount Everest if you transport her there…Prague is not just beautiful women and alcohol. There is architecture, history, even some recent developments are interesting. Why don't we show this?"

The city council member who championed spending the city's money on the ad (the ad cost US $500,000 to make) is also under fire. It seems that Taťána is the council member's girlfriend. The council member doesn’t deny this, but claims that Taťána appeared in the commercial without charging a fee. Beauty School wonders if Petra provided her services pro bono, too?
