It was 1992 and this amazing woman looked like she was jogging to the finish line. She nailed both the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, and she hit her top 6 question from the judges out of the ballpark. Upon seeing the judges' scores flash on the screen, Leeza Gibbons said, "Wow!" She sailed into the top 3.
A junior national medalist in the shot put, it looked like the night would be hers until the final question. Asked what she would do if she were to become leader of her country tomorrow she replied with an answer that still has people talking. Being an athlete, which takes commitment and discipline, she replied that she would build a sports complex. No pageant palaver here. She truly felt that the sports infrastructure in India could use improvement. Her response probably cost her the crown. She "fell on the sword" as they say over something she truly believed in. Now its time to recognize her esprit and conviction by naming Madhu Sapre, Miss India 1992, the title of "Class Athlete." Madhu, "You go girl." Congratulations!
