One our favorite features of the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants was the opening number which featured a choreographed number that the delegates had been rehearsing for all week. What was crucial was who would be in the front line of the number and who would be delegated to the back row. Usually the back row meant you couldn't dance. Well, as part of the curriculum at Beauty School, we put the delegates through their paces in a mock rehearsal/audition (photo above) to see who would make the front row on national television. Well, a group of delegates who did not make front row were so upset they decided to get revenge. The broke into our Librarian Lorraine's locked Max Factor make-up kit and stole a photo that had been banned from being shown at Beauty School. They had the photo made into posters and plastered them all over campus with the words " Cattle Show" printed on them. The culprits were caught and were sentenced to detention which including putting make-up on in the dark and then watching an endless loop of Emma Samms, color commentator of the 1989 Miss Universe pageant, reading - badly at that - from 3 x 5 cards, information about the fact that more Miss Universes were named Margaret, etc. A fitting punishment.
