Got a phone call this morning, from Lorraine, the librarian, saying she was going to be running late since she had to take her parakeet to the Vet. Would we mind opening up the library? We said sure. Once inside we got comfortable at her desk and found a copy of " Confidential," one of the most notorious sleazoid publications of the 1950's & 60's, open on her desk. It was from 1962 and was all about beauty queen scandals. We've loved this one. Dixie Ann Gottfried, Miss Colorado Jaycee of 1958 and her saga of becoming a pistol-packin mama. Seems after winning the title, this six-foot blonde was arrested for slugging two policeman and drenched them with beer when they tried to prevent her from wrecking a tavern. She was arrested. Shortly, thereafter her husband was arrested and sent to prison for the criminally insane. Oh, it doesn't end here. A year later she was picked up for robbing a drugstore. She had stolen $131.00 and some narcotics. At the police station she was grilled by reporters who asked her? "What are your measurements? She replied, "my WHAT?" What do they matter now?" Hey, we don't make this up, we just report it.
