Leona Gage of Maryland was crowned Miss USA in 1957. It was quickly discovered that she was married and hence dethroned. We've always wondered what is physically done in a dethroning ceremony, do they make the winner sit on a throne and then pull it out from under her? In any, case Leona was out and her runner-up Charlotte Sheffield of Utah assumed the title. Here they are side by side being crowned by Carol Morris of Iowa, the outgoing Miss USA and Miss Universe.
