#1 PER CAPITA

Alexandra Helga Ívarsdóttir has just won the Miss Iceland 2008 crown. Here she is competing in Miss Reykjavik 2008, where she placed as 1st runner-up.

Any outstanding Beauty School scholar will tell you that on a per capita basis, Iceland has more international beauty queens (one Miss International and three Miss World titles) than any other country in the world.

This statistic seems to be par for the Icelandic course. Iceland is considered the "most developed country" in the world according to the Human Development Index, has an almost perfectly homogeneous population (just about every citizen of Iceland is descended from a Celt or Scandinavian ancestor), and is one of the most egalitarian countries in the world in terms of distribution of wealth, based on the Gini coefficient.

Oh, by the way, Alexandra will represent Iceland at Miss World 2008, and her first runner-up, Ingibjörg Ragnheiður Egilsdóttir, will be Iceland's beauty delegate at Miss Universe 2008.
