-"Muskrat Love" by Captain and Tennille, 1976

Beauty School has heard of fur flying at beauty pageants before, but never this! It has recently come to our attention that one beauty pageant includes the on-stage talent of skinning a muskrat. C'est horrible, ça!

Today's Washington Post features a front-page, but alas, below-the-fold article on the very unique Miss Outdoors pageant, held in Golden Hill, MD, USA, for the past 54 years. Miss Outdoors beauty delegates can opt to compete in a muskrat-skinning category, and even show their talent on stage, in full makeup, right after one of their arch competitors has played Beethoven's "Für Elise" on the piano.

The Miss Outdoors pageant is the subject of the 2004 documentary film Muskrat Lovely.

For more in-depth, independent study, visit the Miss Outdoors web site and US TV network PBS, which aired the documentary as part of its Independent Lens series.

Please be advised that Beauty School's Director of On-Stage Talent and world-class trampolinist, Judi Ford, has assured the Deans that this talent will not be added to the 2008 curriculum.
