INDEPENDENT SPIRIT 1ST RUNNER-UP

You've got to love a surprise. And boy do we have one here. For years our students have been attending "Cult Movie" night, which on most campuses usually features "Reefer Madness", "Freaks" or "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Not at Beauty School. We always screen "That's Entertainment ??," the documentary featuring all the production numbers from pageants from the 60's - 80's, including the "Loser's Dance" on a double bill with " I Want to Be a Beauty Queen" the surrealistic film about the 1978 "Miss Alternative Miss World Pageant."

The pageant was founded by Andrew Logan, a British sculptor, and is nothing like you've ever seen before. The costumes are outrageous, and the contestants? Well, let's just say they seemed to be having a really good time. This was quite evident at the 1978 pageant when the winner Miss Carriage fell off her thrown after" her "coronation.

To Andrew Logan, we say you truly are an independent spirit for creating this amazing pageant. Our students remembered you and voted you and your pageant the first runner-up award. We encourage you all to visit his website: www.alternativemissworld.co.uk/
