Recently, Our beloved Beauty School librarian unearthed this ditty. She was doing her nails while chatting on her cell phone with someone at the Library of Congress asking questions about what the Dewey Decimal system was. It was not unusual for her to be doing this, as the library is not exactly the most popular place on campus. In the middle of her conversation she dropped her nail polish brush which fell under a table. Still chatting, she dove under the table to retrieve it and she found this newspaper article taped to the bottom of the table. She gingerly removed it and read it and she was horrified. Having been a former little sister at the Miss Universe pageant she couldn't believe what she had read. She immediately contacted one of the Deans, who now shares this amazingly non-PC article with you.
"...Miss USA, Dorothy Anstett will be making a personal appearance at a watermelon festival in Pageland, S.C."
"...Miss Curaçao, Anne Marie Braafheid, was the first runner-up and would become the first Negro to wear the crown, should Miss Universe be unable to meet her commitments."
What a difference 40 years has made to the world of beauty pageants. And we are truly grateful for that.
